Effective communication is an essential skill to have in the educational environment and has also been an important aspect of my university program. Effective communication develops positive relationships with parents and students towards increasing children's learning potential. Effective communication may also reduce inappropriate behaviour and assist in creating an environment of tolerance and respect-this is discussed more under cultural competence (Roux 2002).
I have used a wide variety of ways to communicate with parents and create a sense of belonging and respect. This includes:
>Creating displays using work samples, photos and art
>Providing verbal and written feedback about children's progress
>Use verbal, visual and written ways to communicate philosophies and research surrounding best educational practices in a parent friendly way

I have developed my communication skills and methods of communicating in order to:
-effectively communicate with different stakeholders
-contribute to the team environment
- achieve an intended purpose

"Sadi interacts well with the children and the parents in the morning before school. Parents feel comfortable telling Sadi messages or chatting to her about their child."
(Paula Siddans, Supervising Teacher, 2011, Daily feedback sheets-EPL 3)

I am also a good listener; I listen to, and observe the needs of others and incorporate any advise given.

"Sadi has built a wonderful rapport with the students. She demonstrates initiative and is open to and acts on my guidance"
