GA 3: Critical Thinking

The ability to:
> Manage time and prioritise activities within the University's framework for learning;> Make decisions to >develop solutions to given situations /questions;
> Formulate strategies to identify, define and solve problems including, as necessary, global perspectives.

Standard 3- Design and implement intellectually challenging learning experiences
Standard 5-Assess and report constructively on student learning

As part of my university program I have designed, modified and justified units of work and lessons to match particular objectives and students. In order to enhance learning I have effectively incorporated a variety of ways for students to learn. This includes incorporating higher order thinking frameworks and strategies into my lessons such as the Dimensions of Learning, Blooms Taxonomy, and Tony Ryan's Thinking Keys.
Some other ways I enhance learning:
>create units of work and lessons using the 8 Learning Management Questions
>use a range of graphic organisers
>effective use of questioning and classroom conversation
> use a range of assessment strategies towards understanding and completing culminating tasks
>provide students with opportunities to collaborate in small groups
>provide opportunities for feedback and conversations about what they have learnt before, during and after learning experiences.
> allow students to assess themselves and peers in a constructive and positive way
>provide authentic and problem based learning experiences
(Mc Inerney & Mc Inerney, 2002)
(Marzono & Pickering, 1997)
I have also incorporated arts practices into many of my lessons over the years and received a Distinction for Art at uni. I believe that applying art practices into the classroom can create an environment where diverse ideas are valued, and an environment that encourages students to take intellectual risks and think imaginatively.
Throughout the Australian research paper, Ewing (2010p.13-17 ), states the many benefits of arts in education, not only in how it enhances students attitudes, behavior and creativity, but also that exposure and participation in the arts enhances students’ critical thinking and problem solving abilities, improves student performance in other subject areas, and provides the skills and competencies required by an information based economy.

Group task and performance-"A well documented unit, with lessons that support and demonstrate the identified outcomes. Excellent work".
Individual task-"This is a lovely lesson plan, the children will respond well. I love the way you keep on introducing new elements of interest....just gorgeous, I'd love to try this! ..Your reflections were thorough and insightful. I enjoyed your analysis and suggestions for how you could improve"

The learning experiences are well designed as student centered activities that use a great variety of strategies  ...These are very well developed from the program. The lessons should have gone well and been effective. Well done
